Restore your Smile and Oral Health with Custom Dentures

While tooth loss to any degree is a concern, complicated or severe tooth loss can significantly impact your ability to eat and speak. Additionally, patients are often embarrassed at the appearance of their smile when they are missing one or more teeth. While a dental bridge is a common restoration used for patients missing one or more teeth in a row, it is not the only option available. Another solution includes custom dentures. The dental team at South Knox Dental encourage patients to ask about the different types of dentures available, including partial dentures, full dentures, and implant-supported dentures.

  • Partial dentures – partial dentures are special appliances that are made to snap within the dental arch. They hold false teeth where they are needed to restore the appearance and function of the smile. These can be used to replace one or more teeth within the dental arch. The partial denture has an acrylic and metal framework that allows it to snap and clasp in place. With this restoration being removable, it is easy to take care of and simple to clean.
  • Full dentures – patients missing all the teeth in the dental arch will need a full denture. Full dentures are dentures that are made with acrylic teeth and false gums. They are held in place with natural suction or dental adhesives. These dentures are removable as well, and should be soaked overnight when not in use. Full dentures are common.
  • Implant-supported dentures – patients who are unhappy with traditional full dentures are encouraged to ask about implant-supported dentures. These dentures use dental implants placed into the bone along the dental arch and use them for support and stability. This is the best denture choice, but is not fit for everyone—especially those who have experienced significant bone loss of the jaw due to lost teeth.
