What Form Of Dentures Is Best For You
You may think your smile’s appearance is irreparably damaged when you lose a tooth or multiple teeth. The good news is that this could not be further from reality. Dentures are a popular choice for tooth replacement, and there are several options available. Let us look at each type of denture, what situations they would be best for, and their benefits.
Types of Dentures
At South Knox Dental, our team offers three types of dentures: complete, partial, and implant-supported.
Full Dentures
If you are looking to replace an entire arch of teeth, you will likely need full dentures. The full denture appliance for the top and bottom differ slightly in shape and appearance. When replacing your upper arch, the denture crafted for you will feature a complete set of artificial teeth that sit firmly on a flesh-colored acrylic base that covers the gums and the roof of the mouth. This will allow the denture to rest firmly along the roof of your mouth. The denture created for your lower arch is similar, but it will be crafted in a horseshoe shape because it cannot cover your tongue.
Partial Dentures
If you are missing more than one tooth but not a full arch, partial dentures are available to replace the gap created by your missing teeth. There are several ways in which a partial denture is held in place. Conventionally, a partial denture uses metal clasps, which grip the natural teeth on either side of the gap. The partial denture can also be secured to the adjacent natural teeth with a less noticeable precision attachment.
Implant-Supported Dentures
As their name implies, implant-supported dentures use dental implants to provide a stable, secure fit in the mouth. This form of denture offers several benefits, including increased longevity, stability, and jawbone protection. The dental implant procedure takes several months to complete. Once your dental implants are in place, your dentures will be crafted to attach to them.
