Dental Crowns in Knoxville TN Area

If you have teeth that need protection or have just undergone dental work and need to be capped, a dental crown is a great solution. The dental team at South Knox Dental in Knoxville, TN, welcome you in for a visit.

Simple Procedure

If you have never received a crown, you may think the procedure is intense and complicated. You will be surprised to learn just how easy and minimally invasive it is to make a crown. Once the tooth’s enamel receiving the crown has been cleaned, and any infected or damaged parts of the tooth are removed, the tooth will be shaped so that a crown can be fabricated.

Once work on the tooth has been completed, the crown will be molded from porcelain in a dental lab, where it will be made to match the shape and color of the tooth it is covering. This process typically takes to two to four weeks to be completed. You will come in for your follow up visit, during which the crown will be bonded to your tooth with dental grade bonding cement.

Alleviates Pain

In many cases, a dental crown is applied following some other dental procedure, such as a deep cavity or root canal. When you face extensive decay in a tooth or have a fracture or chip, constant pain may be your reality. Once the underlying issue has been addressed (root canal, appropriate fillings, etc.), the rest of the tooth may be more susceptible to future damage, and/or there may not be a lot of tooth remaining once the decay has been drilled away and will need protecting. A porcelain crown will protect your tooth from further damage and reduce pain and/or sensitivity.

Durability

Porcelain is a long-lasting and strong material used in the construction of crowns used by our dentist. The porcelain’s strength combined with regular care (daily brushing and flossing) and examinations/cleanings will help a porcelain crown last for years.

To learn more about the benefits offered by porcelain crowns and see if you are a candidate for such a procedure, please schedule a consultation with our team at South Knox Dental today by calling (865) 577-7535.
